Why Pipes Actually
Burst in the First Place

A burst is rarely a random event — it's usually the endpoint of a problem that's been quietly developing for months or years. Knowing the root cause is how we make sure the fix holds rather than just patching the symptom. These are the scenarios we see most across Adelaide properties:

Excess Water Pressure
Constant high pressure slowly stresses joints and pipe walls until something gives.
Old, Corroded Pipework
Ageing galvanised or copper pipe rusts from within, thinning the walls unnoticed.
Tree Root Intrusion
Roots chasing moisture can crush or split underground supply lines over time.
Accidental Strikes
A pipe nicked unexpectedly by digging, drilling or other renovation work.
Worn Joints & Fittings
Fittings that were poorly installed or have simply worn out under everyday pressure.
Hot Water Unit Failure
A failed pressure-relief valve or fitting on the hot water system releasing water.
Our process

What Happens Once
We're On Site

Every minute the water keeps running adds to the damage bill, so our whole process is built around stopping that first, then fixing it properly.

1
Stop the Flow First
Nothing else matters until the water's off. We isolate the affected line — or the main stopcock if needed — the moment we arrive, before we even start diagnosing.
2
Find & Assess the Break
We pinpoint exactly where the pipe has failed, work out why, and decide on the right repair approach. For anything hidden behind a wall or under a slab, we use detection equipment rather than guessing.
3
A Fixed Price, Confirmed First
You get a clear number before any repair work starts — no guessing what the final bill will look like.
4
A Repair That Actually Lasts
Work is done to AS/NZS 3500 standards — damaged section removed, new pipe or relining fitted as appropriate, then pressure-tested before we call it done.
5
Water Back On, Cause Explained
We restore supply, check nearby fittings for secondary leaks, and walk you through what caused the failure so you can avoid a repeat. Every repair carries our workmanship warranty.
What to do right now

Before We Get
There, Do This

A few minutes of the right action can make a real difference to how much damage a burst pipe leaves behind:

1. Find the stopcock and shut it off. It's usually near the water meter at the front of the property. Killing the mains supply stops feeding the leak immediately.

2. Cut power to any wet areas. If water's anywhere near outlets, switches or the switchboard, isolate that circuit at the switchboard before it becomes a bigger problem.

3. Get valuables clear, mop up if it's safe. Pull rugs, furniture and anything valuable out of the flooded zone, and clear standing water where you can do so safely.

4. Ring us on 08 8123 4567. We'll talk you through anything specific to your situation while we're on the way.

Resist the urge to patch it yourself — a DIY fix rarely holds, and mixing water with electrics without training is genuinely dangerous.

Common questions

Burst Pipe FAQs

Watch for damp or discoloured patches on walls or ceilings, water pressure that's suddenly dropped, the sound of running water with every tap off, or a water bill that's spiked for no obvious reason. Call us if you spot any of these — we use detection equipment to find the break before opening anything up unnecessarily.
Not usually. Detection equipment lets us pinpoint the break first, which keeps access cuts to a minimum. Where we do need access, we keep it as small as possible. In some cases pipe relining can fix the damaged section entirely from within, with no excavation or wall access at all.
Most home and contents policies cover sudden, accidental water damage from a burst pipe. Check your policy and get in touch with your insurer once the immediate emergency is handled — we can supply a detailed invoice and report to support a claim if you need one.
Yes — either by carefully cutting into and reinstating the slab, or in many cases through pipe relining, which repairs the pipe from inside without any excavation at all. We'll tell you which option suits your situation and budget best.
An accessible repair is often done within one to two hours. Anything under a slab, behind a wall, or otherwise hard to reach can take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe once we've assessed it on-site and keep you posted as we go.
