Leave every switch exactly as it is
That includes light switches, phones, doorbells and power points. Any of these can spark. Don't flick anything on or off on your way out.

Get everyone out, straight away
People and pets, all out. Leave doors open behind you so the gas can disperse, and stay out until a licensed gas fitter or emergency services say it's safe to go back in.

Shut off the meter, only if it's safe
If you can reach the gas meter without stepping back inside, turn the valve off — it's off once the handle sits perpendicular to the pipe.

Call us and your gas provider once you're clear
From a safe distance, ring us on 08 8123 4567 and get in touch with your gas provider — Elgas (LPG) on 13 11 61, or your natural gas retailer. Call 000 if it's life-threatening.
